Eintracht Frankfurt – Werder Bremen 2:2

What’s green and smells like fish?

In the non-German country this slender song is probably not known. The answer is: Werder Bremen 🙂 However, there is at least one link between Eintracht and the Bremers. Thomas Schaaf. He trained both teams. At the Main he was definitely not as successful as in the far German north. But in the end not too bad either. Nevertheless, after one year he was mobbed away in favour of Armin Veh. Veh’s return became a real failure. But that’s all long gone. At the moment there is another case, which moves the minds at the Main. The fans summarized the attached personal matter on the following banner: “We have no connection to Andy Möller. We have nothing to do with traitors.”

Ultimately, both Veh and Möller are traitors to Eintracht’s honor. Both have massively wiped out their former club and expressed contempt for it in public. Normally, this kind of behaviour is called “club-damaging” all over the world.

We were in Rostock with the club train to be a witness of Frankfurt’s new Bundesliga championship – after all after 1957 – against the Hanseatin team. It is very well known, things were quite different. For an Eintracht fan, the game is still an almost indigestible trauma. A heavy contribution to the boundless disappointment is certainly the attitude of Andreas Möller. He already had his contract with Juventus Turin in the dry. It was, for the first time, his last game for Eintracht. Weber & Co worked themselves to the death, gave really everything. Möller, on the other hand, visibly enjoyed the pleasantly warm sunshine on the pitch, and hardly attached any importance to the game. It remains a mystery to this day why one-track coach Dragoslav “Stepi” Stepanovic didn’t get him off the pitch.

To the criticism, rejection of the fans responded by Eintracht’s sporting director, Fredi Bobic

“I’m not interested in your opinion.” And further: “Who is against Möller, is also against me.”

Well, quite arrogant, condescending and not least nonobjective. Let us remember that Bobic’s appointment to the Eintracht Board was not entirely uncontroversial. But his dedication and performance quickly convinced many of his critics. Well, perhaps Möller’s (re)hiring is a good decision as well. We wouldn’t have taken him. In time, we’ll see. And should the ex Stuttgarter Bobic own a format, then he should apologize to the fans for his derailment. And in the future always seek dialogue.

PS: We are against the appointment of Andreas Möller as head of the young talent centre. But not (yet) against Fredi Bobic. For us there is no factual necessity.

To the game

Victoriously returned home from Portugal, Vitória Guimarães lost the three points in the EL. This puts the Eagle in second place in Group F behind Arsenal FC. So this time you might think that the EL game against Bremen will be a real first-person booster.

In the 27th minute it was in the sold-out Waldstadion – how else? – but 0:1 for the guests. After that, there was a very nice surprise in the 55th minute. The not as Goalgetter known Rode compensated with a worth seeing goal. Eintracht showed a great fighting morale this time again. André Silva even took the lead in the 88th minute. You’d think that was it. Victory. Finally three more points on the account …

But only two minutes later victory’s dream burst. Hasebe was fouling unnecessarily inside the penalty area and the referee didn’t hesitate a second. He pointed to the point and Hasebe the yellow card. Milot Rashica converted very safely and the game ended 2-2.

In summary, after Dortmund another draw. Against Werder, Eintracht had a clear advantage after their performance. But what does it mean? The Hessian have superfluously left two points behind. So the slapdash kickers expect the difficult home game against Leverkusen from 9th place in the Bundesliga.
